It would seem that there are still charities that haven’t yet registered their domain names. The latest figures from Netnames indicate that so far 168,297 .org.uk addresses have been registered. Given that some charities have registered multiple domains – some have registered over 30 – that probably leaves many of the 182,000+ charities in England and Wales without domain names.

One can assume that these are smaller charities and there is an argument that their limited budgets do not stretch to protecting their name online or off. But if you can afford the £10 or so for two years to register a .org.uk address it is worth considering.

The voluntary sector does not of course exist on .org.uk suffixes alone. There are also 23,656 .sch.uk addresses for schools and 2,313 ac.uk addresses for higher education institutions. To put these in context, there are 2,467,064 co.uk registered domain names for for-profit organisations. Again, some of these will be registered by charities or their trading arm.
