Harry Potter to raise £22m for Comic Relief

Howard Lake | 8 January 2001 | News

JK Rowling, author of the successful Harry Potter series of books, is expected to help raise £22 million for Comic Relief. She will donate all her royalties to the charity from two new spin-off books from the series. Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them, by Newt Scamander and Quidditch Through the Ages by Kennillworthy Whisp are both titles from the library at Hogwarts School. Ms Rowling has written and illustrated them both.

The books go on sale on 12 March and two million copies of each will be published in the UK. Rowling’s donation is expected to make up about half of this year’s total Comic Relief income.
