Essex County Council launches Millennium Fund

Essex County Council has launched a £1.5 million endowed fund to support local voluntary and community groups. Councillors believe that this initiative to mark the Millennium is the first time that a local authority has adopted this approach to provide long term investment for their local communities. The Fund has been set up with guidance from the Essex Community Foundation.

Legacy & In-Memory Fundraising Conference, September 2026

The Fund has four priority themes for funding – carers, community support, the environment and young people. Applications are invited from Essex-based voluntary organisations addressing these issues, with the first awards to be announced in March 2001.
