“Silver surfers” might be a patronising phrase for the middle-aged or older Internet user, but the phrase seems to have stuck.

There are now a few more UK sites appearing, some of which even claim to be “portals”, specifically for the silver surfer. Given their target audience, it makes sense for fundraisers to evaluate them as a source of potential donors or volunteers.

We’ve already mentioned the launch of Vavo.com, but there is also I Don’t Feel 50, which has a section contributed by the Charity Commission and which recently featured UK Fundraising, and newcomer Lifebegins.net. The latter is due to launch on 14 January and aims to reach “silver surfers with attitude.” The latter is written and researched by people over 50. The site should launch on 14 January.
