Mencap partners with AOL UK

Howard Lake | 27 January 2004 | News

Mencap has announced a strategic partnership with online interactive services provider AOL UK.

As part of the collaboration, AOL UK will sponsor Mencap’s Web site, which was shortlisted as Charity Internet Site of the Year in the 2003 UK Charity Awards. It will also run an online campaign to raise awareness of learning disability issues and
the charity’s campaigning work.

AOL UK is a valuable partner for Mencap’s online activities since it has more than two million users. From early February 2004, these members will be able to access Mencap information via AOL’s proprietory keyword system: visitors to AOL Keyword: Mencap will find the latest news about the charity’s campaigns and fundraising activities.

The partnership will not simply benefit Mencap. AOL UK employees will receive specialist training from Mencap on how to
improve accessibility of the AOL service for people with learning disabilities.

To mark the beginning of the partnership, AOL UK is giving fifty free AOL accounts to Mencap to be used by people with a learning disability who want to access the Internet.
