E-publishing benefit to raise funds for US literacy charity

A US charity is to raise funds through the sale of electronic books. Reciprocal„¢, the global digital rights management (DRM) services provider has teamed up with Simon & Schuster, Inc. to launch on online fundraising campaign to benefit a literacy charity.

Running from 15 December to 15 February 2000, the campaign allows visitors to read and print, but not save, yet-to-be-published works by six of Simon & Schuster’s foremost authors. To access the texts visitors are asked to make a donation of $1, $5 or $10. The fundraising campaign, which its creators claim is the first of its kind, showcases Reciprocal’s digital rights management technologies. Participating authors include Stephen E. Ambrose, Mary Higgins Clark, Jackie Collins, Stephen King and David McCullough.
