The Cancer Research Campaign has also been nominated for the prize for best non-commercial Web site at this year’s UK Web Awards sponsored by Marketing, Yell and Internet.Works magazine. Other nominations go to the RSPCA and Red Mole student magazine. The 1997 winner was Amnesty International for its refugee campaign, and the winner in 1996 was OneWorld Onlines.

Significantly no organisation, whether charity or for-profit, was selected for the best online banner ad category. Charities might be able to win awards for advertising in newspapers and in direct mail, but three years after the banner ad was invented, they and their design agencies haven’t quite mastered the art of 468 x 60 pixels.
