Benchmarking studies for non-profits' online communications
How are charities and non-profits using the Internet? How does your organisation’s use compare to that of others? The Gilbert Center has begun a valuable project to help answer these and other questions.
Nonprofit SiteAnalyzer aims to learn more about how nonprofits are using the World Wide Web. Rather than using laborious and anecdotal observations, they have decided to learn as much as they can through automated tools.
Their first project is A Survey of Children and Youth Sites. It found that the median age of the nonprofits’ Web pages sampled was over two months, the mean age was over four months, and less than 14% of pages had been revised within the last week.

More studies are promised throughout 1997. Let’s hope there will be a study of online fundraising and income generation.
