Best payroll giving employers recognised in No 11 awards ceremony

The most successful company payroll giving schemes were named this evening at an awards ceremony held at Number 11 Downing Street. The National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards, now in their 10th year, showcased the best examples of UK employers’ raising funds for charities through payroll giving schemes.
The awards ceremony was presented by Peter Lewis, the Institute of Fundraising’s Chief Executive who took up his post just 10 days ago. He was joined by Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Home Civil Service Sir Gus O’Donnell, fresh from publishing the report into Doctor Liam Fox’s ministerial behaviour, and Chloe Smith MP, newly appointed Economic Secretary to the Treasury following the reshuffle arising from Dr Fox’s resignation as Defence Secretary.

According to the Institute of Fundraising, giving by payroll giving increased by 7.5% during 2010/11 compared to the previous year, with around 720,000 people donating £114 million to charitable causes.
The Institute confirmed that it would introduce a new top level Platinum Quality Mark for those employees that increased levels of payroll giving even beyond the levels of the gold mark. The new quality mark would be available to employers from April 2012.
