9 year old blogger and fundraiser Martha Payne in the spotlight today

I am torn between staring at the blog counter of Never Seconds – food blog written by a 9 year old Martha Payne, following #neverseconds hashtag on Twitter and trying to write this blog post.
In April 2012 Martha started her blog posting photos of her school dinners and gradually build up her online presence to the point when she was noticed and featured by press. She has used her blogging in the meantime to raise £7,724 for Mary’s Meals (check out her JustGiving page here).
She has reached her fundraising goal. However, her local council communicated through her teacher that she is banned from posting photos of school meals. This – as you can imagine – resulted in a pretty drastic response from bloggers and Twitteratti. Both Martha and her dad made a public statement on her blog too.

It’s not a happy day for her local authorities, but I am certain that a very good day for her cause! Let’s hope she will be allowed to blog and raise funds her cause again!
