Reclaim Fund Ltd has distributed a record £370 million to good causes across the UK in 2025/26 through the Dormant Assets Scheme, the largest annual distribution in the scheme’s history.

The figure, published this week in Reclaim Fund Ltd’s 2025/26 Annual Report and Accounts, takes the total amount committed to good causes since the Scheme’s inception to more than £1.6 billion.

UK Fundraising reported in January 2025 that the Scheme had passed the £1 billion mark, so this year’s distribution alone represents more than a third of everything raised in the Scheme’s history to date, a sign of how much its expansion in recent years has accelerated the flow of funding.

How the scheme works

The Dormant Assets Scheme allows banks, building societies, and, since 2023, insurance, pension and investment providers to transfer the value of accounts that have been dormant for at least 15 years to Reclaim Fund Ltd. Reclaim Fund Ltd holds back a portion to meet any future customer reclaims, and channels the rest to good causes across the UK, primarily through the National Lottery Community Fund and equivalent bodies in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Where the money goes

Reclaim Fund Ltd’s report highlights examples of organisations and initiatives already benefiting from dormant assets funding, though as with previous years’ distributions, the eventual causes supported span youth provision, financial inclusion, community organisations and social investment, reflecting the range of funders the Scheme feeds.

For fundraisers, the milestone is a reminder that dormant assets funding continues to grow as a source of UK charitable income, and one worth watching as successive expansions of the Scheme, to pensions, insurance and investment assets, work their way through to distributable funds.

The 2025/26 Annual Report and Accounts, along with a media Q&A pack, is available from Reclaim Fund Ltd for charities and funders wanting the full detail behind this year’s figures.

Reclaim Fund Ltd does not hold customer account information. Anyone who believes they have a dormant asset should contact the original financial provider or use an appropriate tracing service, many of which are free for consumers.
