2012 British 10km London Run attracts 15,000 runners for 612 charities

The 2012 British 10km London Run, which will take place on 8 July next year, has already attracted nearly 15,000 runners who will benefit 612 charities who have secured places under the race’s debenture system.
Event founder and director Michael O’Reilly said that this was “a record entry for this time of the year”.
He pointed to the relatively low charge to charities compared to other major running events. The race entry fee for the years 2012-2014 costs £212.10p per debenture, and each one guarantees the holder six places each year, with charities only paying one year at a time.
As part of the cost of the debenture, each charity runner will receive chip timing, an official race photograph, a text message confirming place and time results.
The event, now in its 12th year, will enable runners to run through central London on roads closed to traffic just 19 days before the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games. The event has places for 25,000 runners, and its organisers say it has sold out every year since 2006.
