European foundation conference to be held in Belfast
Belfast will host the AGM and annual conference of the European Foundation Centre (EFC) in 2012, the first time it has been held in Ireland or the UK.
The EFC is an international association of foundations and corporate funders dedicated to creating and enabling the legal and fiscal environment for foundations, strengthening the infrastructure of the sector and promoting collaboration, both among foundations and between foundations and other actors. Its membership includes many of Europe’s leading independent and company foundations.
The conference and AGM will take place in Belfast from 6 to 8 June 2012 and will explore themes around peace and social justice issues facing several regions around the globe.
On 16 September this year the organising committee will be holding a programme committee meeting to discuss the conference. The committee includes representatives of foundations in Ireland. Atlantic Philanthropies has granted aided the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland £50,000 towards the cost of the conference.
The EFC says the conference will be an essential meeting place in 2012 for foundation professionals from Europe and farther afield to learn about, share and debate issues around peace and social justice affecting many regions; network with their peers; and explore other thematic, operational, and legal issues relevant to their work.
The following is a list of criteria for eligible participation to the AGA and Conference:
• Private, corporate and community foundations
• Public grant-making charities, operating foundations and corporate funders
• National and regional associations of foundations and corporate funders
• Small, medium and large foundations
• Funders who want to learn more about operations, management and public policy issues
• European Union institutions, multilateral organisations and government officials interested in cooperation and partnership
• Representatives of citizens’ associations and other bodies concerned with the civil society development
• Foundation trustees, governors, chief executive officers, programme officers, administrative and support staff, and others in the grantmaking and operating fields
The EFC says grant seeking will be strictly forbidden during the conference.
