Seven days for Bournemouth groups to claim over-60s funding

Bournemouth community groups and charities that work with the over 60’s have just seven days to apply for funding of up to £3,000 from Dorset’s Community Foundation.
The funding has been made available via the Community Foundation as a last minute boost to fund Bournemouth organisations that can host an Active at Sixty promotional event during the next year. However the charities or groups must apply for the money no later than 31 May 2011.
The funding is also available for any organisation that is encouraging the over sixties to participate in social and sporting activities. It can fund taster days and open membership schemes that encourage people aged over sixty to stay active and get introduced to social or sporting activities they may not have tried before.
The Foundation’s Chief Executive, Tina Baker said: “If your charity or group is working with people aged over sixty, or about to start a project for the over 60’s then it’s worth calling the Foundation’s office to ask if your project is eligible for Active at 60 funding.”
Groups applying for funding must be formally constituted, have a separate bank account and not have an annual income in excess of £50,000.
Over the past five years the Community Foundation has distributed over £5 million in grants to more than 1,600 local charities and community groups across Dorset.
