Concern Worldwide sees drop of nearly €5 million in voluntary income
Irish development charity Concern Worldwide experienced a drop of nearly €5 million in voluntary income in 2018, according to its latest accounts.
Voluntary income, representing 22% of total income, was €35 million in 2018, down from €40 million the year before. Total income, including significant government support, was also down, from €192 million to €164 million.
Concern raises its money in Ireland, the United Kingdom and South Korea. The charity is particularly pleased at income growth in South Korea, following the 2015 launch of fundraising operations there.

Although Concern Worldwide marked its 50th anniversary in 2018, all voluntary income sources fell during the year. Regular giving remains the single most important fundraising income source, falling from €28 million to €27 million. The charity has over 130,000 people who donate through face to face, direct mail, advertising and online channels.

Concern invested significant resources in ensuring GDPR compliance and harmonised data privacy laws across Europe. Corporate, major donor and trust income was €3.9 million (from €4.2 million in 2017). The inaugural Women of Concern luncheon in Dublin attracted almost 300 people from the Irish business community, contributing in excess of €90,000.
Kerry Group has committed €1 million over four years to food security and nutrition in Niger, while a five-year €3 million project is being funded by Zurich Insurance Foundation.
