Charity Commission launches revised fundraising guidance, CC20
The Charity Commission for England and Wales has launched revised guidance ‘Charity fundraising: a guide to trustee duties (CC20)’. The redesigned guidance will provide trustees with clearer, more accessible advice on their duties and responsibilities when fundraising.
The guidance has been made more concise (from around 11,000 words, down to 4,000) and more accessible.
To make it easier to use, the redesigned guidance is organised around themes such as planning, supervising your fundraisers and working with others, including professional fundraisers.

Mazeda Alam, Head of Guidance and Practice at the Charity Commission, said:
“Fundraising is one of the most visible activities a charity can undertake, which is why it’s so important to get it right. This is why we’ve redesigned our guidance on fundraising to provide trustees with clearer, more accessible advice on their duties and responsibilities when raising funds from the public.
“Trustees carry significant responsibility for ensuring their charity fundraises effectively, ethically and within the law. We’re confident that our redesigned guidance will help trustees fulfil their responsibilities, protect their charities and help maintain the public’s trust in the sector’s essential work.”
Paul Winyard, Head of Policy at the Fundraising Regulator, said:
“Charities depend on public generosity to deliver their vital work, with trustees responsible for their organisation’s fundraising strategy. This guidance supports trustees in getting these essentials right, helping charities to benefit from public support while maintaining the trust and confidence in fundraising on which the sector depends.”
