New regional chairman for the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity

Alan Wright has taken on the honour of regional chairman of the Lord’s Taveners, a charity which raises funds to give youngsters a sporting chance in life.
The popular former BBC radio broadcaster from Hartlepool succeeds Kevin Pattison of Handelsbanken, who held the title for the last two successful years. The change-over took place at the Lord’s Taverners Christmas lunch in Newcastle, which was attended by 600 people and raised £45,000 for the charity.
The Lord’s Taverners is the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, an honour which Alan, a former chief executive of Durham County Cricket Club is delighted to be associated with. Alan has been dedicated to the Lord’s Taverners for a decade in addition to his involvement with the Cricket Foundation and has always been tireless in his work for the local community and charitable causes in his region.
Mr Wright said,
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to be asked to take on the role and I’m looking forward to a busy couple of years as chairman.
“We raise thousands of pounds in the UK every year and I’m proud to be accepting the title of chairman in what is the North East’s 25th anniversary year.”
The Lord’s Taverners believe that sport and recreation are essential for young people. The charity focuses on supporting youth cricket in disadvantaged areas and sports and recreational equipment for young people with disabilities and special needs, including specially-adapted minibuses.
