Break the silence, buy radios for Burma

Howard Lake | 25 June 2010 | News

Amnesty International UK’s second ‘crowdfunding’ campaign, launched in June 2010, asked supporters to donate to buy 4,000 radios to be distributed throughout Burma by the middle of July to help overcome censorship by enabling an estimated 50,000 people to access independent radio broadcasts.
Amnesty specifically encouraged supporters to share the fundraising appeal using social media. “Ask your friends and family to get involved too. Share the campaign by email or on social networks”.

Amnesty launched its first ‘crowdfunding’ campaign in May to help fund its protest ad campaign against Shell; 2,014 people donated as a result.
