Social media gives you great opportunities for campaigning, so let’s use each success as a building element of our on-going relationship with supporters.

I posted about it today on our website, but I think it’s important I share it with UKFundraising audience too. When we are talking about successful examples of social media campaigning for a cause, the recent Greenpeace Nestle campaign remains a classic example for me. And now that we see the happy ending of it, it’s time to look at what we have learned!

1. Using right tools in right time requires understanding of what is achievable with each of those.

2. The best strategy is to combine all major on-line presences (website, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo etc)

3. Social media amplifies off-line actions and content, so do not aim for virtual campaign only.

4. Transparency of your actions motivates your supporters, builds trust and long term, personal relationships with your supporters.

5. Do not forget to thank everyone for their involvement! Social media is about relationships and people – people, without whom all your great ideas and efforts would simply fail.

All this leads to success which you can celebrate together, just like Greenpeace supporters do now! (already looking at new campaigns;)
