DEC launches Ukraine appeal

The Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal will see 13 of its 15 members receive funds, all of which are responding or planning to respond to help people fleeing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
DEC members and their local partners are working in Ukraine as well as across the border in neighbouring Poland, Romania, Hungary, Moldova and Slovakia, to meet the immediate needs of people fleeing with food, water, health assistance, protection and trauma care.
"I could never have envisaged launching a humanitarian appeal in Europe in 2022. But tragically, that's exactly where we find ourselves," – Saleh Saeed, chief executive of the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Charities participating in the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal are Action Against Hunger, ActionAid UK, Age International, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International UK, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide UK, International Rescue Committee UK, Islamic Relief Worldwide, Save the Children UK, Tearfund and World Vision UK.
The appeal officially launches today (3 March), with BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky all to broadcast appeals.
The UK government is matching funding donations to the appeal through its Aid Match scheme up to the value of £20 million, and people can donate online, by phone or by text.
Mail Ukraine Appeal
In other appeal news, the Mail has announced that its fundraising appeal has broken records, with the total raised now standing at over £2.5 million – four days after its launch. All donations will be distributed to charities and aid organisations providing essential services. According to the Mail, it’s the fastest newspaper fundraising appeal of all time.
