Cyclists raise more than £500,000 for charity
Cyclists have raised more than half a million pounds for charity from a number of cycling events organized by Pennine Events over the last 12 months.
Several hundred cyclists taking part in events such as Right to Play, Pedal for Scotland, Pedal It Pink, Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride, and Under and Over the Mersey have raised the money for charities such as Barnardo’s and Breast Cancer Campaign, along with a number of local hospices.
Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events, which organised all of the events, said: “This is an amazing amount of money that cyclists have raised collectively for numerous charities and hospices across the country over the last year. It just shows that lots of people doing their bit for charity can add up to a significant amount and really help these charities in their very worthwhile work.”

“Over the years, as event organisers, we have found that cyclists are generous in spirit and always willing to use events to raise money for either their favourite charity or an event’s official charity. Many people taking part in this year’s events were also doing so for the first time; so it’s not just the serious cyclists that are raising money but those new to cycling.”
Mark said that the recent event: the Right to Play Edinburgh to London Bike Ride – involving 100 cyclists riding 540 miles from the Scottish capital to the English capital over six days, staying in halls of residences each night and riding up to 90 miles a day – raised almost £90,000 for the charity Right to Play.
The money raised will help protect 6,700 children in developing countries from AIDS, malaria and war. Right to Play uses sport and play to provide basic education to 720,000 children in 23 countries every week and to give children the life skills and confidence necessary to make the most of their lives.
