The Coventry Building Society has donated a staggering £1.591m to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
The Coventry launched a Poppy Bond in October last year and pledged to donate 0.25 per cent of the total funds invested to the Poppy Appeal.
The Bond paid a fixed rate of 6.5 per cent until the end of December 2009. At the launch, head of products at the Coventry Edward Sadler commented: “The Poppy Bond is the ‘first of its kind’, it is innovative and unique.”
A letter to investors from the Coventry’s chief executive David Stewart said: “I am delighted to announce that, due to the success of this account with customers, Coventry Building Society has donated a remarkable £1.591 million…this is one of the largest donations ever made to the Legion’s Poppy Appeal.”
No-one was available from the Royal British Legion or the Coventry for comment.
