28th International Fundraising Congress gets underway

Welcome to the International Fundraising Congress 2008
The 28th International Fundraising Congress gets underway today in Nordwijkerhout, Holland.
Its organisers, the Resource Alliance, say that it is “the biggest international fundraising convention in the world”, in the sense of staged for an international audience with international content.
This year there are over 950 delegates from at least 552 organisations from 60 countries. Sixty six per cent of delegates are attending for the first time.
Forty two per cent come from NGOs, 38% from international NGOs, 17% are suppliers to the sector, 1% come from universities, and a further 1% are categorised as “other”.
Not surprisingly the UK dominates the delegate list with at least 165 UK delegates from 76 organisations. Some of the larger charities send a big delegation: NSPCC for example, has 20 staff here, Macmillan Cancer Support eight, and British Red Cross eight. On the other hand there are plenty of organisation sending just one delegate.
I’m here for the first time in 10 years as a member of the press, and have been reporting on its early stages mainly via Twitter, while uploading pictures to Flickr.
Subscribe or follow these to keep up to date with the conference.
I’ll be adding reports here too, and some videos on YouTube too.
