London Councils Grants Committee are to donate £7.8 million to projects that get older and disabled Londoners, children and young people from disadvantaged families, people from black, Asian, minority ethnic communities and refugees (BAMER) more involved in cultural activities.
London Councils Grants Committee has used £4 million to commission 22 organisations to help encourage older and disabled people and those from BAMER communities take a more active role in cultural activities across the capital. A further £3.8 million is being used to commission 23 organisations to increase the opportunities for children and young people from disadvantaged families get involved in arts and cultural initiatives.
The £7.8 million will be distributed over four years. London Councils received 90 applications for funding to encourage children and young people to get involved in arts and culture schemes. Sixty nine applications were received to promote access to cultural activities, with an emphasis on increasing participation of older and disabled Londoners and black and minority ethnic communities.
