Abbey staff volunteer for community regeneration projects

Employees from personal financial services firm Abbey are this month volunteering to help renegerate the communities in which the bank operates.
Through ACE (Abbey Community Events), now in its second year, Abbey staff will volunteer over 2,500 hours to work on more than 25 gardens, 13 conservation projects and several educational schemes with schools.
Projects include clearing up a park pond and holding a sponsored duck race in Mile End, London, planting bulbs in a Marie Curie hospice garden in Bradford and repairing a footpath in a National Trust site in Sheffield. All projects fall under the Abbey community priorities of regeneration, community and education.
Nearly 400 Abbey staff based at nine head office sites will volunteer on the community events over the next four months. In addition, branches across the country will be serving a selection of cakes baked by staff to raise money for the official charity of Abbey’s Charitable Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Sheralee Morris, Abbey Community Relations Manager, said: “It’s only the second year we’ve run the initiative but it’s already grown hugely since we started, with more and more of our staff wanting to get involved in projects in their local communities. Each staff member spends a day on their assigned project, providing them with a great insight into the different organisations and charities within their local communities.”
