Four fundraising tweets while we’re working from home

Here’s another collection of four tweets that fundraisers might find useful or inspiring, spotted recently.

1. GivingTuesdayNow

GivingTuesday’s additional one-day campaign in May was a response to the extraordinary situation charities around the world find themselves in following lockdown.

The figures are in – its 5 May campaign, produced at short notice of course, has raised over $500m online internationally.

GivingTuesday is questioned by some for making giving about one day in the calendar rather than the different motivations that drive donors, but at this critical time for nonprofits, a sum on that scale is truly valuable to the many organisations that took part.

2. Chester Zoo’s appeals on Twitter

Chester Zoo has been responding to the financial crisis by livestreaming content of its animals and inviting donations. If your gates are closed but you have an ark of fascinating animals in your grounds.

3. Generosity for the future

Many are giving cash in response to the urgent needs they can see, but many are also pledging donations via their wills.

4. Black Lives Matter UK

A crowdfunding campaign by Black Lives Matter UK has raised over £455,000 in just three days. The coalition of black activists and organisers across the UK reached half-way towards their target of £500,000 in just 24 hours.

The campaign follows (but makes no reference to) the global reaction to the violent death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in police custody.

It is welcome confirmation that the public can be moved to support more than one topical, emergency appeal at the same time. Coronavirus and its impact is affecting everyone but other, longer, issues can and must still deserve attention and action.
