Argos donates 20,000 stock items to In Kind Direct
Multi-channel retailer Argos has donated 20,000 items of stock from across the country to In Kind Direct, the charity that co-ordinates and encourages manufacturers and retailers to donate high quality goods for use by good causes.
The donation is one of the largest In Kind Direct has received since it was founded by the HRH Prince of Wales in 1996. It has taken eight deliveries over four days to deliver the two hundred pallets of items to In Kind Direct‘s distribution operation in Oxfordshire. They now take up around 10% of their warehouse space.
Argos has donated products from across its catalogue, from coffee tables to the latest in mp3 players.
Over the coming months, the goods will be reorganised into packs and listed on the In Kind Direct online catalogue: its charity partners can then select the packs they need, which are then delivered to their doors by In Kind Direct’s transport partner DHL Exel Supply Chain.
One of the first organisations to benefit from the Argos donation is Darnall Community Nursery. Based in Sheffield, the community group are moving into a new centre at the end of April and needed a chainsaw and gardening tools.
Linda Edwards, community co-ordinator at Darnall Community Nursery, said: “I know it is uncommon for a children’s nursery to request a chainsaw and gardening tools, but they will be invaluable for recycling the felled trees to make furniture and play areas for the children.”
