Google for Nonprofits showcases free tools for charities

Howard Lake | 25 March 2008 | Blogs

Google has launched Google for Nonprofits, a showcase of the many free tools that the search engine giant offers and which charities could find useful.
“You are changing the world. We want to help”, explains the site. “Learn how to use free Google tools to promote your work, raise money, and operate more efficiently”.
None of the tools are new and are available to individuals and for-profit organisations as well. Nevertheless, it’s a handy list for those who have only dipped their toes in tools like Gmail or Google Analytics.
Tools listed include Checkout, Calendar, Docs, Gmail, YouTube, and Blogger. Each tool includes a very brief guide to how charities might use it.
Google is inviting charities to share details of how they are using Google tools in their work so that others might learn and benefit.
Although there is a link to Google Grants, whereby eligible nonprofits receive free Google AdWords advertising, the new site is published by Google, and not Google.org, its charitable foundation.
