Four speech bubbles saying
No cards thanks!

New online greetings service Nocardsthanks.com is encouraging people not to send printed Christmas cards to friends and family this year and raise funds for charity in the process.

The new service isn’t just for Christmas: it can be an environmentally friendly way for anyone to give money to charity instead of sending greetings cards, whatever the occason.

Nocardsthanks.com, a University of Glamorgan spin-out company, enables people to register and select not to receive greetings cards for a variety of special occasions.

They then supply the site with a list of friends and family, from whom they wish to receive greetings. These people are then emailed and asked to send online customised greetings to the user and donate to a charity of their choice instead.
The cost of each online card is £2.99.

Louise Bright, founder of nocardsthanks.com said: “We really appreciated all the lovely cards we received after the birth of our daughter, but I wondered how the money spent on them could have been used by the Special Care Baby Unit where she was born. As a result we came up with the idea for nocardsthanks.com.”

Support from the University of Glamorgan helped turn the idea into a commercial reality. It provided the company with office space, the support of a Business Manager and funding for a small website, designed by graduates from the university, so charities could explore the concept.

Charities using and promoting the service include BLISS, the charity for premature babies.
