Mal Warwick elected chair of the Resource Alliance
Leading American direct marketing practitioner Mal Warwick has been elected as the new chair of the Resource Alliance, the global civil society capacity-building organisation. Warwick will succeed current chair Usha Menon next year.
Warwick has ambitious plans to use new communications technology to take the Resource Alliance’s message and training programme to the developing world.
“There are many thousands of NGOs throughout the world that are currently unable to attend any of our events,” he acknowledges. “For many of these organisations, the answer may lie in the series of low-cost booklets we’re preparing on fundraising techniques and issues. For others, though, the time may be right to begin using new communications technology to reach them – such as satellite uplinks from sessions at the International Fundraising Congress or recording them and distributing them on DVDs.

He added that he’s keen to use digital media such as streaming video, podcasts, blogs and RSS feeds to help expand the impact of the Resource Alliance. “If done right”, he said, “we can lead a communications revolution in reaching and training those southern NGOs that need a lift in their fundraising capacity.”
Warwick will be shadowing current chair Usha Menon for the next year, before taking over at the International Fundraising Congress in Holland in October 2007. His three-year term as chair will take him to 2010.
Simon Collings, CEO of the Resource Alliance, said: “Mal has a great track record in building both for profit and non-profit organisations. Resource Alliance is growing fast and Mal’s experience and ./guidance will be invaluable to us over the next few years.”
