Smile beer raises funds for local charity

A Merseyside micro brewery has created an ale in support of local cause, Melissa’s Smile Fund.
Connoisseur Ales was inspired to create the beer after reading in the local media about Melissa Adams, who was born with Angelman Syndrome and her mum’s aim to raise funds to pay for a sensory room for her daughter.

The Smile beer will be launched 6th May at 7pm at local pub Cricketers Arms, where supporters can buy the beer and meet both the brewers and Melissa herself. The beer will then be available for the rest of the month in pubs across the St Helens borough where Connoisseur Ales is based. It is being targeted primarily locally to free-houses that sell real ale of which there are around 27 in the borough. Several out of town pubs and regional beer festivals have also placed orders. The beer’s badge and label feature the charity’s logo and it will be promoted on local social media.
Kevin Yates, who runs Connoisseur Ales with his parents said:

“We have been working together to get this beer produced since reading stories in our local paper and on social media. This was our best way of supporting the cause, both in terms of money raised and also getting the charity’s name and information in front of a wider local audience.”
