Will Aid set to benefit all charities
The bi-annual Will Aid is running again throughout November and gives all charities the opportunity to motivate their supporters to make a will.
The campaign, which is run by a partnership of nine charities (ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, Help the Aged, NSPCC, Save the Children UK, Sight Savers International, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N Ireland)) last ran in November 2004.
It recruits solicitors all over the UK who give their time for free to draw up basic wills. The will-maker is asked to make a donation to Will Aid (£75 for a single will, £110 for a pair of mirror wills and £40 for a codicil), but is free to leave a legacy to any charity they choose. The last Will Aid achieved over £5m in legacy pledges for the Will Aid charities as well as raising £687,000 (including Gift Aid) in donations. Around 1,800 solicitors are signed up to the scheme.

A hefty publicity campaign is currently running in local newspapers and local radio as well as national press, magazines and radio. The organisation can provide leaflets free of charge for inclusion in supporter mailings to any charity.
Charities wanting to promote Will Aid to their supporters and members can contact campaign manager Shirley Marsland at [email protected] or phone 01460 271178. There is a Will Aid Hotline (0870 600 239) or a ‘solicitor locator’ on Will Aid’s website for people wanting to find a local solicitor.
