At launch the targets were £500,000 in donations and 750 hours of time.
Fundraising and volunteering activity by Network Rail staff included:
- 44 Network Rail workers overhauling Action for Children’s Rhondda Short Breaks Centre. This included painting ceilings and walls and replacing the floor.
- a team of 23 apprentices in Portsmouth in a tandem skydive raising more than £2,800.
- volunteers collecting change from commuters at Network Rail managed stations.
Sherine Krause, executive director of fundraising and communications at Action for Children, said:

“The main success factor was the incredible support of the volunteers from Network Rail; 323 members of staff donated their time to the children we work with. Having a partner on board like Network Rail made an enormous difference to our work and we can’t thank them enough.”
The partnership was shortlisted in the Charity Partnership category for Third Sector Business Charity Awards which were announced earlier this month.
