Charity shop profits down by 0.1%, says Charity Finance survey

Howard Lake | 30 August 2005 | News

UK charity shop profits have fallen by 0.1 per cent over the last year due to rising costs, according to Charity Finance magazine’s 14th annual Charity Shops Survey.

Complying with increasingly onerous legislation, costs associated with staffing and waste disposal, and the eBay effect have been highlighted as the main causes.

Oxfam retained its position as the most profitable charity shops chain posting profits of £20.6 million, an increase of 15.6 per cent on the previous year. Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross and Barnardo’s make up the top five UK charity shop chains.
