Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and the Home Office are to provide every secondary school in England with a £500 charity account to help promote a culture of giving in schools.

Students will be encouraged to build on the initial £500 funding by undertaking fundraising activities. They will then be able to distribute funds to recognised charitable causes.

The partnership is part of a new £9 million programme to help promote a culture of giving in England, entitled “A Generous Society“.

Other initiatives to be funded include the extension of the Giving Nation schools curriculum programme to primary schools, a partnership with the Institute of Fundraising to encourage charities to make better use of tax-efficient fundraising schemes.

HM Revenue and Customs have confirmed that they will be explaining and answering questions on these new developments at UK Fundraising’s Perfect Pitch – Gift Aid event on 29 November.
