Charity Commission regional roadshows to start in York

Next week the Charity Commission will hold its first open board meeting outside London and the first in a series of nine regional presentations of its three-year strategy to charity leaders across the country.

Following the Commission’s recent review of its own activities, the regulator has recognised that it needs to meet more trustees and charities face-to-face to gain a better understanding of their priorities and needs.

The York events will start on 24 May with a presentation to an invited list of charity chiefs by the Commission’s Chairman Geraldine Peacock and its Chief Executive Andrew Hind. The following day’s open board meeting will address a range of topics from the Commission’s policy stance on charities providing public services, to promoting trust and confidence in the 190,000 charities the Commission regulates in England and Wales.

Geraldine Peacock, chairman of the Charity Commission, said: “There are almost 12,000 charities in Yorkshire, so this is very important area to us in terms of the concentration and the diversity of charities in the region.”

Hosted by York Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), the evening reception is by invitation only. However, members of the public are invited to attend the open board meeting, starting at 9.30am at York’s Marriott Hotel.
