Open gardens raise £50,000 for RHS Bicentenary Appeal

The ‘open gardens’ scheme for the RHS Bicentenary Appeal has raised over £50,000 so far towards the cost of the £7.7 million RHS Bicentenary Glasshouse and Learning Centre at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey.
The total has been achieved through a mixture of garden openings, special events held by owners and donations to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
Each garden owner decided on their own contribution whether that be through open days, donations from takings, plant sales, special guided tours or an event in their garden.

One of the garden owners donated an additional £10,000 to the RHS Bicentenary Appeal.
One open garden event held by Mr and Mrs Lloyd of Amberden Hall in Essex raised over £9,000 through a drinks evening and a week long quilt exhibition in their barn.
The Society has raised over £3 million towards the £5 million fundraising target for the Bicentenary Glasshouse and Learning Centre through donations from RHS members, major donors and trusts and other supporters. The RHS will be providing £2.7 million towards the cost of the glasshouse from its own resources.
Further open days are being held this summer.
