Plan UK mobile advert on trains raises £53,000 in 18 months
Global children’s charity Plan UK has raised over £53,000 from its outdoor fundraising campaign to end child marriage. The campaign adverts appeared on trains coming into London and invited to donate via mobile phones.
Since November 2011 the ad generated over 18,000 text donations. More than 1,700 donors to the ad also signed up to become regular supporters of Plan’s Girls Fund, which helps to transform the lives of girls around the world.
Plan UK is now planning a ‘thank you’ advert to supporters to appear in train carriages on Greater Anglia and c2c networks from July 15. Open Fundraising and KBH Media have provided both the creative and train panels, respectively, for this thank you campaign free of charge.

“The advert we’ve been running for the past 18 months has been a great success,” said Plan’s interim director of Public Engagement, Peter Reynolds. “It’s not only raised vital funds, but has helped to increase awareness of the issue of forced marriage and Plan’s work in this area.
The original ad, featuring 12-year-old Aneni, highlighted the abuse of millions of girls taken from school and forced into marriage with older men every year. Some of these girls die in childbirth. The advert invited people to donate £3 by text.
