YouTube offers nonprofits their own channels at no charge
Video sharing site YouTube has launched a programme for US nonprofits that lets them create their own channels on the site at no charge. This puts them on a similar level on the site to commercial organisations such as the BBC.
Participating nonprofits can now upload thei videos of public service announcements, fundraising appeals, and reports on their work. In addition, nonprofits can use Google Checkout, its recently launched rival to PayPal, to handle online donations without charge.
The service includes free premium branding capabilities and increased uploading capacity, and the rotation of nonprofits’ videos in the “Promoted Videos” areas throughout YouTube.

There are plans to bring together all nonprofit channels into a central area where visitors can browse.
Early partners in this programme include The Clinton Global Initiative, the American Cancer Society, and the March of Dimes.
Currently the service is open only to US organisations with documented 501(c)(3) tax status.
