Lloyds TSB Foundation launches 2005 guidelines

Howard Lake | 10 January 2005 | News

The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has published its new ‘Guidelines for Charities who are Applying for a Grant 2005’ for regional and England and Wales-wide grants.

For 2005 most of the foundation’s funding policies remain unchanged. However, the guidelines mention that in 2006 series of new thematic programmes will be included.

Grants for 2005 are given to grassroots charities which help disadvantaged and disabled people to play a fuller a role in the community. The foundation funds a wide range of social and community needs, including core funding, from disability information services to community centres and telephone helplines.

The majority of the foundation’s 3,000 grants currently fall under the ‘Community Programme’ – 88.5% of funds distributed in 2004. The average regional donation was £6,000 and England and Wales-wide donation £15,000.

The guidelines also give details of the ‘Collaborative Programme’ which encourages ‘joined up’ working within the voluntary sector and with public agencies (7% of its funds in 2004).

‘New Initiatives’ will continue to be funded which demonstrate innovation, and where there is a clear intention to roll out pilot projects across England and Wales (3.5% of funds in 2004).

The new thematic programmes for 2006 will account for one-third of the foundation’s grant-making budget. The first of these will build on the Collaborative Programme and the foundation will consult during 2005 on other potential themes. The Community Programme will continue with approximately two-thirds of the Foundation’s grant-making budget. From 2006, the New Initiatives Programme will no longer be a specific programme in its current format. The new Guidelines for 2006 will be published in November 2005.
