More sites catch up by offering online donations to Asian floods appeal

Justgiving and Charities Aid Foundation have today started accepting and promoting online donations to the Asian flood disaster appeal.

Justgiving’s front page was amended today to feature the appeals by British aid agencies “to fund humanitarian aid missions to the areas worst affected by the disaster” which occurred over three days ago on Boxing Day morning. The news item links to a page listing 10 organisations working in the affected countries, each with their own Justgiving donation facility.

Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) also today published advice on its front page about how donors can support the disaster appeal. CAF is specifically supporting the DEC appeal. It says that “donors who are already clients of CAF, whether individuals or businesses, and who wish to give to South East Asia, can have their gifts transferred automatically and swiftly from their CAF accounts to the Disasters Emergency Committee or any specific charity providing aid in the area.”

CAF suggests three ways in which people can support the emergency and longer term work of agencies involved in the affected countries. They can give directly via the DEC or givenow.org, and CAF Charity Account holders can give via allaboutgiving.org.

Givenow.org, however, as of 23.50 this evening, did not feature any news or appeal on its front page ‘latest charity news’ section about the floods disaster. Nor had any charities involved in the disaster used the free service that the site provides to publish news of current appeals.

Founded in 2002, GiveNow.org is a combined venture from CAF, the Time Warner Foundation and AOL UK.

Allaboutgiving.org, however, does mention CAF’s response to the disaster and links from its left-hand column to CAF’s advice on giving.
