New Band Aid single available at end of November

“Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, the new Band Aid single recorded last Sunday, will be released on 29 November 2004.
All proceeds from the new recording of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure ‘s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” will be donated to The Band Aid Trust.
The artists who performed on this second remake of the single have called themselves Band Aid 20 because it is 20 years since the release of the original recording.

In case you haven’t heard the original, which is unlikely given that we’re within 12 months of Christmas with the result that it seems to be playing on the musak systems of most high street shops, the release also features the original recording from 1984.
The sleeve artwork has been designed and donated by Damien Hirst.
Artists involved in the new recording include Robbie Williams, Katie Melua, Dido, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, The Divine Comedy, Busted, Sir Paul McCartney (bass guitar), Morcheeba, Ash, Jamelia, Bob Geldof, Radiohead, U2’s Bono, Daniel Bedingfield, Will Young, Travis, The Darkness, Dizzee Rascal, Feeder, Moloko, and Damon Albarn.
As with the original recording, the Government has announced that it will refund VAT from the sale of the new version of the single, together with DVD sales of the new “Live Aid” DVD and CDs. The Band Aid Trust expects this to save it up to £4 million.
The Irish government has also announced that, while it can’t waive VAT, it will make available to the Band Aid Trust funds that are equivalent to the VAT receipts on the sales of the new “Live Aid” DVD and CDs.
