The Farmers pub in Portinscale, Cumbria, is donating 10p from every meal sold in 2004 towards its local Village Hall appeal.

The initiative, which has raised £400 so far, came at a crucial time for Portinscale Village Hall, situated next door to The Farmers, as it had recently been refused Lottery funding to restore the building.

The pub’s management came up with the idea to bring the pub, part of the Jennings Brothers’ network, closer to the community after its recent refurbishment.

Adrian Rowe, Manager of The Farmers, said: “So far we have raised around £400 and we hope to raise as much as £1,000 by the end of the year.

The Farmers has placed a banner on the front of the pub advertising the fundraising event, to create awareness to neighbouring villagers and passers by.
