Deparment of Health funds second round of BHF's anti-smoking posters

Howard Lake | 4 May 2004 | News

The Department of Health has contributed an extra £1 million to fund a second burst of the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) ‘Give Up Before You Clog Up’ anti-smoking campaign.

The extra funding is paying for poster advertising at more than 1,700 poster sites across England. The posters feature the arresting ‘goo’ imagery linking a cigarette tube and a fat-filled artery.

The Department had already pledged £15 million in 2003 over three years for charities to run tobacco control campaigns on its behalf. It contributed the additional £1 million after the BHF reported that almost half of all smokers who called its anti-smoking helpline since 1 January 2004 have quit smoking.
