Data company Claritas Acxiom have identified those towns which have the highest number of people giving to charity.

If you are planning a street collection, you could do no better than holding it in Marlborough in Wiltshire. That is the most generous town in the UK according to Claritas Acxiom’s new research into the giving habits of residents of 597 towns. Here 76.5% of people give to two or more charities each year, compared to the national average of 58.8%.

Just below Marlborough come Amersham, Reigate and Pulborough.
