Trustee sails the Atlantic to raise £20,000 for Fight for Sight

Clive Stone, a trustee of blindness charity Fight for Sight, has raised nearly £20,000 for the charity by sailing non-stop 3,000 miles from Gran Canaria to the Caribbean.

One function of being a trustee is to support a charity’s fundraising efforts. Clive Stone has achieved that in a most impressive manner by sailing across the Atlantic in 19 days.

Clive, of Kenilworth in Warwickshire, skippered a four-man crew on his cutter-rigged sloop. “The weather was mainly on our side,” he said, “although we had some dramatic moments as well!” At one point a 35 knot squall nearly flattened the yacht.

An ex-chairman of Fight for Sight, Clive says he was overwhelmed by the amount of support he received. “When I started planning this trip I thought I would be lucky to raise £5,000. To have raised almost £20,000 is absolutely fantastic.”
