Howard Lake | 4 February 2004 | News

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust is celebrating its centenary this year.

One of the UK’s largest grant-making trusts, the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust was set up in 1904 by Quaker businessman Joseph Rowntree, who had made his fortune from producing cocoa and chocolate.

Currently the Trust makes about 170 to 200 grants each year, totalling over £4 million. Grants range from a few hundred pounds to over £100,000. They can be one-off grants or run for up to three years.
