Co-operative Group partners with Operation Christmas Child
The corporate sponsor will support the national campaign run by the charity Samaritan’s Purse International UK to deliver shoeboxes filled with gifts to needy children in Eastern Europe at Christmas.
The Co-operative Group will replace Kwik-Fit, whose three-year tenure as the campaign’s principal business supporter for the collection of shoeboxes has just ended.
The Co-operative Group has agreed to provide collection points for Operation Christmas Child in more than 1,100 stores throughout the UK.

In 2002, over 1 million shoeboxes filled with gifts were distributed at Christmas to children suffering from the results of poverty, war and natural disasters in 18 countries.
David Vardy, Executive Director at Samaritan’s Purse International UK commented: “Operation Christmas Child is delighted to have the Co-operative Group as our corporate partner. With its network of more than 1100 stores stretching from Cornwall to the Shetlands Isles, they have the country well covered.
“We know the stores are easily accessible locations for donations of shoeboxes and we hope that in 2003 even more gift boxes will be contributed to help brighten up the lives of vulnerable and suffering children in Eastern Europe and beyond.”
