Two thirds of charities' trust income comes from 1% of trusts

Charities are depending on a tiny number of trusts for the majority of their grant income, according to new research from Bill Bruty of trust fundraising company Fundraising Training.

Looking at trust income for 13 charities over nine years, Bruty found that 67 trusts, or 0.8% of all UK trusts, contributed £15 million of the charities’ total trust income for £23 million. He commented that the findings should help charities plan and budget ahead. They should also not expect small trusts giving under £5,000 a year to upgrade and give more than that.
