Internet fundraising 'can be profitable'

Howard Lake | 3 April 2003 | News

An expert panel discussed whether Internet fundraising could ever be profitable at CHASE 2003 in February 2003. They agreed that it could be profitable but differed as to how.

The debate was sponsored by the Institute of Fundraising Special Interest Group in IT. There was little disagreement that Web sites on their own were unlikely to generate much income: targeted e-mail communications were needed to generate sufficient visitors and online donors.

All delegates’ charities had a Web site but very few had implemented online fundraising to any degree. One charity however told how it had improved their online income by simply moving the “donate now” button from a sub-page to the main page.
